In November 2022, we welcomed SIX to Tectum Group. In a construction industry that is constantly evolving, with a decrease in new construction projects and an increase in renovation projects, this acquisition not only brought more expertise, but also opened the door to exciting new projects, including, among others, the prestigious Cinquantenaire Park and Montevideo. We spoke with colleague Jelle Defrancq, Business Unit Manager of SIX by Tectum to get more insight into SIX's story.
The Acquisition of SIX, how did that go?
"The acquisition of SIX was challenging, we acquired two of the six departments of SIX, namely the metal roof & facade department and the flat roof department. In acquisition terms, also called 'Cut out,' and in a cut-out, the acquired departments are disconnected from all procedures and support of the parent company, which made the transition exciting."
Key Benefits of the Acquisition
"The expertise is invaluable, SIX is known for its expertise in roofing and cladding. From the well-known flat roofs with EPDM to metal roofing and cladding, SIX has specializations in materials such as zinc, copper, brass and lead. The acquisition has brought this rich knowledge to our group. Witness to this are some notable projects such as Cinquantenaire Park and Montevideo."
What is the official name?
"The official name is SIX Roof & Facade by Tectum, as also recorded at the notary. In our e-mail address we use the extension tectumsix.be, while on the phone I simply refer to 'SIX by Tectum,' because 'SIX Dak & Gevel by Tectum' is too long to pronounce."
New Premises and Relocation Plans
"The new building consists of three parts of 1,000sqm each. We use two parts, the last part is rented out. Currently we are in the process of furnishing the warehouse. To fit in the zinc workshop, some walls were demolished. Colleague Davy Baert, from the zinc workshop, together with Geert Deboodt, our technical employee, had the opportunity to draw the layout plan of the warehouse. On November 27 and 28, we moved the machinery, we didn't move at that time because the machines have to be set up which will soon take several days to get everything right to the millimeter. We anticipate to be fully operational from December 4 at the new site at Zwaaikomstraat 2A, in Roeselare. Pending the new offices, which will be completely renovated in the course of next year, the workers' locker rooms/showers and clerical desks are temporarily housed in container units. Colleagues from Tectum Group who are in the area are always welcome to pop in. "
How do you feel about the relocation plans?
"Very positive, I'm even looking forward to being in the work containers. We have been well received at SIX, the offices have been recently renovated and the colleagues are friendly. But it's nice to have our own place, so we can develop our own identity in our Roeselare office."
Will the move have a major impact on commuting?
"It's not far away, but for colleagues who come by bike, this means some extra miles. However, I think those who are used to coming by bike will continue to do so."
What was the reaction of your colleagues?
"I think they are excited, especially to have our own place. A year after the takeover, most colleagues have recovered. In the beginning it was a shock for some, but now we are all ready to move."
Canyou tell a little more about your experience within the Tectum Group?
"I have been working at Tectum Group for almost 15 years. I started as a junior project manager at Tectum Dekkers Eke, grew through to regional manager and about a year and a half ago I was ready for a new challenge. That's how SIX came on my path. Besides my work, I am a full-time father of a 12-year-old daughter and a 9-year-old son, but I am well supported by my wife (laughs). In my spare time I like to play basketball. I live in Brakel and am a loyal listener of Studio Brussels and Radio Willy."
Thanks to Jelle Defrancq for sharing his insights. With the upcoming move to the new location in Roeselare, we are looking forward to a successful future for SIX by Tectum. The doors are open to interested parties, and we wish the team much success and growth at the new location.
