Tectum Group acquires roofing company DSB
Written by

Genk, May 18, 2023 - Tectum Group, a family-owned company of building contractors and distributors of roofing and facade products, is increasing its national coverage and expertise by incorporating the renowned Derbigum Services Belgium (DSB), based in Woutersbrakel, Walloon Brabant, into the group.

Who is DSB?

Rudy Evens, CEO of Tectum Group, explains: "Derbigum Services Belgium, Imperbel's contracting business, was founded in 1954 and acquired by Imperbel more than 30 years ago. At that time, DSB was known as Asphalis. We know the name Derbigum mainly from the production site of high quality bitumen roofing membranes in Perwez, below Brussels, one of the leading Belgian producers of roofing products. Derbigum, the manufacturer, and DSB, the contractor, were both part of the Imperbel Group. We are particularly proud that we, as a family business with Limburg roots, can take over Imperbel's contracting company DSB. After the acquisition of SIX Dak & Gevel from Izegem at the end of last year, this is another strategic enhancement in terms of expertise and national coverage, which consolidates our intended growth. The name Derbigum Services Belgium will soon be changed to 'DSB by Tectum'. With this acquisition, Tectum Group also strengthens its ties with the Derbigum production unit".

Market in motion

The construction sector is undergoing a substantial evolution. Yves Biesmans, co-owner and co-managing director of Tectum Group, emphasizes the importance of renovation and remodeling: "Due to a stagnant market, we have observed a decline in the number of new construction projects. However, the demand for renovations has been increasing for some time. We intend to further develop this trend. Our ambition is to be a strong partner throughout Belgium, with expert roofers who can work in their respective regions. By joining our DSB colleagues, we can more easily reach the regions beyond Brussels."

Circularity and sustainability

"Then there is the ever-growing importance of circularity and sustainability," adds Rudy Evens. "Construction and demolition activities today account for 5 to 12% of our national CO2 emissions. In fact, many large building owners, including governments, are already firmly committed to circular and sustainable solutions. We expect the demand for sustainable solutions to boom under the impetus of the European Green Deal and the forthcoming CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) for large companies. In January of this year, we launched the world's first fully circular flat roof system, the BossCover Circular System, which we have since sold internationally," concludes Rudy proudly. Creating a commitment to circularity and sustainability requires specialized and dedicated people. Scale makes it possible.

60 additional roof experts

Tectum Group currently has a large team of 192 roofing specialists working in its various branches throughout Belgium. With the recent acquisition of DSB, we wellcome an additional 50 roofing colleagues and 10 office staff (including project managers)."These people can expect a very warm welcome into our family group and a great deal of appreciation," emphasizes Yves Biesmans. "Because these people are top specialists in the installation of Derbigum waterproofing. With the company's foundation dating back to 1954, there is an impressive quantity of know-how and craftsmanship that is widely recognized in the construction world."
