Project

Ceria-Coovi school campus

Flat roofs

The designers had specific requirements for the new roof insulation to be installed, including acoustic properties, thermal resistance, shape retention, implementation method, pressure resistance and cost. "Thanks to the combined expertise of ROCKWOOL and Tectum DSB, a solution was found in a combination of Caproxx and Tauroxx," says Willy Coenen of Tectum DSB.

Challenge 1: arches

The curved roofs of the first sports hall required expertise. The sheets had to be as thin as possible to remain ductile, but still provide sufficient thermal resistance. Therefore, four layers were installed: three layers of 60 mm Caproxx and one layer of 70 mm Tauroxx. The choice of this roof insulation was related, among other things, to the acoustics and fire safety in the sports hall. Stone wool insulation contributes to better acoustics and reduces reverberation. In addition, this material is flexible and therefore very suitable for curved roofs.

Challenge 2: shed roof

The roof of the second gymnasium is located on the fifth floor. The shed roof immediately catches the eye, but at the same time makes it more complex. Technical knowledge and experience were again the keywords to success. The insulation of this roof was done with Caproxx and Tauroxx because of fire safety. "The challenge was mainly in the practical implementation, because there was not much horizontal storage space on the shed roof. So the delivery had to be phased, and that was handled perfectly by ROCKWOOL," says Willy Coenen. "Delivery in parts also reduced the risk of theft, an aspect that most people don't think about."

Ceria-Coovi is a large school campus in Anderlecht offering both Dutch-speaking and French-speaking vocational education. The three buildings for which Tectum DSB has carried out work over the past two years were commissioned by the French Community (Cocof, Commission Communautaire Française). Two buildings house classrooms, a library and two sports halls. The dining hall is located in a third building. The roofs of all three buildings received a new and durable insulation shell and waterproofing.

"The biggest challenge was mainly in the practical implementation. The necessary expertise came in handy for insulating and sealing these atypical roof shapes." Thus Willy Coenen, Tectum DSB.

Challenge 3: horseshoe

The dining room roof has a horseshoe shape. Here, a combination of flat sheets with Rhinoxx slope insulation on the sloping part of the metal roof structure was chosen, partly because of fire resistance and partly in view of the later installation of a green roof.

Roofing

For the waterproofing of the three buildings, a (self-adhesive) bituminous roof waterproofing was chosen to make the various roof areas neatly watertight.
