With a total capacity of 1190 inmates, the prison in Haren (Brussels) will be the largest in Belgium. The prison village covers no less than 15 hectares, is surrounded by a 1.2 km long perimeter wall and has cost 382 million euros. It will eventually replace the prisons of Saint-Gilles, Forest and Berkendael.
99% of inmates will eventually be released. Haren's new prison village was designed with this in mind: no bars in front of the windows, ample space for recreation, and a focus on a human approach and rehabilitation. In November 2022, the first inmates moved into this new prison complex, comprising 8 buildings: 3 male prisons, 2 female prisons, a forensic psychiatric center, a juvenile facility and a general building. Tectum Group was selected by the general contractors to realize the roofing of this structures. The project involved the installation of 45,000m² of Elevate EPDM roofing.

The entire complex consists of 8 buildings: 3 male prisons, 2 female prisons, a forensic psychiatric center, a juvenile institution and a general building. For the execution of the roofing of all buildings, main contractors Denys and FCC chose Tectum Group. The project involved the installation of 45,000m² of Firestone/Elevate EPDM roofing.
We were able to dedicate sufficient manpower and resources to complete this project within the given timeframe, despite its size and tight schedule. Having one partner for the entire roofing job was a major motivation for the general contractors to collaborate with Tectum Group.
