For the roofing of the Amazon distribution center in Antwerp, general contractor Cordeel chose to work with Tectum Group. Quality, flexibility and solution-oriented thinking were some of the decisive factors for choosing Tectum Group to realize this circular roofing system.

The roof consists of 2 large flat roofs of the warehouse and a canopy roof where couriers drive in and out to load packages. Together they cover approximately 10.000 m². The roof structure consists of a PE film that is utilized as a vapor barrier and provides a smooth surface for the EPDM membrane. The PE film is covered by a layer of Knauf mineral wool insulation, which helps keep the building warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The final component of the roofing system is the Firestone/Elevate RMA EPDM membrane, which is highly resistant to fire, UV and extreme temperatures. This membrane is applied over the insulation and PE film, creating a waterproof barrier.
Interesting detail. No less than 110.000 RMA screws were used to fasten the roof. RMA stands for mechanical attachment of the EPDM membrane and fits into the ecological story of the entire Blue Gate site. Every building that is constructed here has to be circular. For the roof, this means that it can be disassembled for use elsewhere.
The additional challenge of this project was the short time frame. To meet the tight deadline, extra teams were deployed and work continued even during construction holidays.
