The steel structures for both phases were manufactured by De Meyer in their workshops on the Scheldt in Temse. Tectum Group insulated the structures with sandwich panels and covered them later with a standing seam zinc facade consisting of Pigmento Red Plus. Zinc not only serves as a sustainable facade material, but also provides an aesthetic enhancement to the weir house. The roof was also insulated and finished with a bituminous waterproofing system.
Once completed, both phases were transported by ship to the lock complex at Sint-Baafs-Vijve. Here they were lifted from the ship to their final destination.
With the completion of this project, both the renovated weir house and the reconstructed weir in Sint-Baafs-Vijve have been given a fresh look and can once again serve as essential and functional elements in the water management and ecology of the area for many years to come.
The renovation of the weir house was an integral part of the larger renovation of the weir at Sint-Baafs-Vijve. The weir house itself was renovated in two phases. The first phase was completed in 2022. In June 2023, the second phase of the weir house, including the electromechanical installation of the lock, was lifted into place. Watch the video.
