The renovation of two sports halls was carried out entirely by Tectum Constructors. Both halls had a similar construction, with demolition of existing cornices and asbestos-containing roof layers. Renovation included new insulation, waterproofing and cladding.

Sports Hall 2:
Challenges: The renovation required close attention to details such as careful demolition of the existing steeldeck roof structures, minimal on-site storage space, and limited accessibility for transportation on campus. Although the initial deadline was missed due to weather conditions and heavier demolition than anticipated, the project was still able to be successfully completed within a reasonable time frame.
For the Free University of Brussels in Ixelles, Tectum Constructors realized the renovation of several roofs, including those of two sports halls and the restaurant on campus. The work included the demolition of old roof structures and asbestos-containing layers, the installation of new insulation, bituminous waterproofing, cladding, collective fall protection and green roof. This project is therefore a great example of our Everything under one roof-approach in which we can achieve time and cost savings for the client by offering various services.

The roof of the university restaurant is currently undergoing an extensive renovation, carried out in several phases to take into account the continuity of campus activities.
To date:
Still to be implemented:
Challenges: This site is technically complex. The original roof contained inverted concrete beams that were partially concealed to achieve an even finish. A combination of steel deck and slope insulation was chosen - an approach that requires precise placement. In addition, the limited execution time, combined with the fact that several contractors are working on the roof simultaneously, creates additional coordination challenges. Exam periods during which noise is prohibited are also taken into account, and the restaurant remains operational during the work.
With this project, Tectum Constructors demonstrates its expertise in complex renovation assignments within an active campus environment. Thanks to careful preparation, expert knowledge and cooperation with other partners, the various phases are carried out successfully and with attention to detail.
