To mark Embuild’s 80th anniversary, Roof Belgium spoke with Jean Biesmans, founder of Tectum Group former chairman of Embuild Flanders. In the interview, he looks back on his career in the construction industry and explains how commitment and a strong network have contributed to the growth of Tectum Group.
Jean Biesmans started his first company in 1981 with a clear ambition: to grow and establish a strong position in the industry. He soon became active in professional organizations, where he discovered the importance of knowledge sharing and networking.
“I’ve always aspired to become a major player. Embuild has helped me achieve that.”
Following the acquisition of Dekkers NV in 2000—now known as Tectum-Dekkers—he was given the opportunity to become even more actively involved within Embuild. That involvement ultimately led him to become chairman of Embuild Flanders.
According to Jean Biesmans, that network played a crucial role in the further expansion of Tectum Group.
Through my involvement, I got to know the major contractors personally. That certainly contributed to the growth of Tectum Group.
By being present where decisions are made, he not only built relationships but also gained insight into developments within the industry.
Finally, he has a clear message for the next generation of entrepreneurs:
“By being involved in the decision-making process, you help determine the direction the construction project takes.”
