The new volleyball season has officially started and Tectum Achel recently introduced its renewed team to press and public. The supporters could get acquainted with a mix of familiar faces and new talents, including some international players who reinforced the team in the fight for a strong season in the Lotto Volley League.
During the team presentation, Rudy EvensTectum Group) took the floor to explain why the group has been committed to being the main sponsor of Tectum Achel for many years.
"We believe in the power of cooperation, discipline and trust. Values that characterize not only the volleyball team, but also our way of working within Biesmans Group and Tectum Group," said Rudy Evens. "Tectum Achel is a team that exudes on and off the court what we find important: achieving results together, growing and strengthening each other."
The collaboration between the two Tectum teams thus remains a strong symbol of local anchoring, talent development and lasting relationships.
Dawid Pruszkowski is in his second season with Tectum Achel. The 23-year-old Polish libero came to Belgium in 2024 and quickly became a fixture on the team. We spoke to him about his experiences, ambitions and how he found his place. Both in Achel and in the team.
Dawid: Thank you! I am 23 years old and play as libero for Tectum Achel. This is my second season at the club. Last year was my first experience in Belgium, and I'm glad I stayed here. It really feels like coming home now.
Dawid: That's right, volleyball is very big in Poland. Still, I was looking for a new challenge, a chance to get more playing time and develop myself further. Tectum Achel contacted me and gave me that chance. Some former teammates had already played in Belgium and told me many positive things about the league. That convinced me to take the step.
In the end, what was the deciding factor in choosing Tectum Achel?
Dawid: Mainly the opportunity to gain experience on the field. In Poland, as a young player, it is difficult to immediately get a key role in the PlusLiga. Here I could grow, learn and take on more responsibility.
Dawid: Yes, actually I did. Because of my physical stature, that was the most logical position from the beginning. The role of libero suits me well: react quickly, play precisely and support the team.
How did your passion for volleyball actually begin?
Dawid: Thanks to my brother! He came home one day and told me that a volleyball academy of Trefl Gdańsk had opened. I went along to the first training session and was immediately sold. From that moment I knew volleyball would become a big part of my life.
Do you remember when you realized you really wanted to make this your career?
Dawid: That moment came when I was accepted into SMS (School of Sports Mastery) sports college. That's when I knew: This is going to be serious.
Dawid: We have a strong and young team with a lot of talent and commitment. What distinguishes us the most is the atmosphere. There is a lot of unity and trust in each other. Everyone works hard, and we want to build something together. Our supporters help a lot with that, the energy they bring during the games is fantastic.
Last season, Tectum Achel even became fall champions. How do you look back on that moment?
Dawid: That was an incredible achievement and an important chapter for the club. We showed that we can compete at the top. The victory against Maaseik was a highlight, it gave us confidence that we can really achieve something together.
Dawid: Before a match, I mainly try to clear my head and put my focus completely on the game.
Do you also pay attention to your nutrition, sleep and recovery?
Dawid: Absolutely. Eating well and getting enough sleep are essential. Sleep is the best form of recovery. As for food, I like everyday food. And I'm lucky, there is a Polish store nearby, so I don't miss my favorite products! 😄
Dawid: Very positive. What I miss most is direct contact with my family and friends in Gdańsk and, of course, walks along the sea. But Belgium has a lot to offer. I love the culture, the food and especially the chocolate (although Polish chocolate remains the best, mind you!). In my free time, I like to explore the region with my girlfriend. We already visited cities like Brussels, Rotterdam and Cologne.
Dawid: In the short term, my main goal is for us to play a strong season with Tectum Achel. Winning a prize would be historic for the club and that is our goal.
And in the longer term?
Dawid: Like many players, I dream of one day playing in the Polish PlusLiga, the best league in the world. But for now, my focus is completely here. I want to keep growing and mean something for this team.
Dawid: Definitely! It's great to see how many fans are there every time and how hard they encourage us. Their support energizes us and really makes a difference. Thanks for being there every game!
