Koepelzaal - Flemish Parliament

Liquid waterproofing

Located in the heart of the historic Flemish Parliament building, the Koepelzaal represents an icon of architectural splendor and Belgian cultural heritage. It was a challenge that inspired and motivated us to push our "technical limits."

Complex placement

The waterproofing of a glass roof requires a lot of technical knowledge and experience. Following installation steps were used to obtain a quality and professional final result:

  1. Thoroughly clean and degrease the glass panes and joints.
  2. Application of masking tape.
  3. Application of a glass primer to etch the glass. This "roughens" the glass surface to ensure maximum adhesion.
  4. Application of first layer of liquid waterproofing (PMMA).
  5. A fleece tape is applied wet to make the seal more robust.
  6. A second layer of liquid waterproofing is applied to the fleece.

In addition, it was also important to closely monitor humidity and dew point temperature as this affects the adhesion and curing of the liquid waterproofing.

1.8 km liquid waterproofing for glass dome Flemish Parliament

Waterproofing a glass roof is not an everyday job. Besides the complex bonding, the presence of many steep sections and hard-to-reach corners creates an additional challenge to apply the liquid waterproofing. Thanks to Triflex' s technical support and our experienced roofers, we were able to bring this project to a successful conclusion.

In addition, it was also important to closely monitor humidity and dew point temperature as this affects the adhesion and curing of the liquid waterproofing.

The complexity of the work was further compounded by the fact that we were dealing with glass surfaces that were far from standard. The presence of many steep sections and hard-to-reach corners made the application of waterproofing a real challenge.

The result

A beautiful renovation that does justice to the heritage, and a tribute to the perfect blend of innovation and craftsmanship. Proof that no challenge is too big when you have a great team and strong partners.
