The scope of work included the complete demolition of the existing pitched roof, including the attic floor/ceiling of the classrooms. Afterwards, a new wooden ceiling was provided and insulated. A new wooden roof structure was installed and 700m² of ceramic tiles were applied to the new roof.
One of the biggest challenges of the project was the need to keep the building watertight throughout the renovation. The school remained operational throughout the entire renovation. This added another layer of complexity to the project. The safety of the children and staff were also closely observed. As you can see from the images, the playground is located around both buildings. Thus, caution was required.
Tectum Dekkers Genk has successfully completed their first sloping roof renovation with the roof renovation of elementary school De Zonnewijzer in Zonhoven. Where in the past they mainly installed new flat roofs, the growing demand for renovations forces them to explore the renovation market as well. And with pleasure because new challenges mean new opportunities. For both project managers and roofers, it is an opportunity to expand their knowledge and expertise. Career learning is therefore an important value within the Tectum Group.

The implementation of the project was divided into two phases so that the school could organize the relocation of the classrooms and the continuity of education was not compromised. This phased approach ensured a streamlined implementation of the project and minimized the impact on the day-to-day operations of the school.
Tectum Dekkers looks back with satisfaction on this first successful renovation of a pitched roof and confirms the expertise and dedication of the team. This project marks a milestone in the history of Tectum Dekkers Genk and forms the basis for future successful renovations and projects.
