From 2011 to 2016, Residence Palace underwent a remarkable metamorphosis and was transformed into the contemporary Europe Building. Popularly known as 'The Lantern' or 'Van Rompuy's Egg', the roof was designed with a series of glass domes to allow as much light as possible into the building. Tectum Group installed Tectum Group 1.3 km of EPDM gutters between these domes. Anecdote: while the work was being carried out, our roofers were hurriedly sent off the roof because of a European summit taking place in the European Quarter. Fun fact: the glass facades of the new section consist of a patchwork of more than 3,000 recycled window frames from all countries of the European Union.
