Tectum Group the construction of all types of roof structures, including both flat and sloped roofs. Two specialized entities work closely together on these projects:
This integrated approach makes it possible to treat a complex project like The Grand as a single entity, ensuring maximum control over quality and scheduling.
“The client specifically Tectum Group because we have the in-house knowledge and expertise to successfully complete such complex projects.”
Bart Cannoot, Project Manager at Tectum Group

Although this project is not the largest in terms of area, its complexity certainly captures the imagination:
“In terms of size, this isn’t our largest project, but in terms of difficulty, it’s definitely one of the most challenging.”

The roof of The Grand features a sophisticated combination of zinc dormers and natural slate. Sustainable and aesthetically pleasing materials were deliberately chosen, without compromise.
The zinc dormer windows, finished in Quartz with a patina coating, were installed using a standing seam to ensure optimal resistance to the high wind loads typical of coastal areas. This finish was chosen because of the harsh marine climate, which has a significant impact on material deterioration.
Carefully selected natural slate surrounding these dormer windows creates a subtle and elegant contrast with the facade.
“No compromises were made when it comes to materials. Everything was chosen with both durability and aesthetics in mind.”

Particularly impressive are the curved roof surfaces, where slate, lead, and zinc come together seamlessly. This requires an exceptional level of precision and craftsmanship.
“The combination of curved forms and clean lines is what really gives this building its grandeur,” said Bart Cannoot.

On the coast of Nieuwpoort, an architectural icon is being given a new lease on life. The Grand, originally opened in 1929 as a prestigious Art Deco hotel, fell into disrepair but is now being restored to its former glory. The design is by the renowned architectural firm of David Chipperfield and combines modern comfort with respect for the building’s original character.
Tectum Group is playing Tectum Group key role in this comprehensive renovation: the complete roofing work on this exceptional building.

The biggest challenge on this construction site lies not only in the execution, but above all in the complex coordination. With numerous contractors working simultaneously, meticulous planning is crucial.
“The challenge lies in coordinating everyone. You have to constantly switch back and forth between our own teams and external parties.”
The flat roof also presents technical challenges. It was constructed using high-quality bitumen, combined with sloped insulation to ensure proper water drainage, despite the building’s complex shape.
In addition, vacuum insulation was used in specific areas—an innovative solution that allows for high insulation values to be achieved within a limited structural height.
For zinc work, we prioritize precision and efficiency above all else. Depending on the complexity, the zinc panels are either formed on-site or fully prepared in the zinc workshop. Especially for more complex and curved shapes, production takes place in the workshop, where every element is worked out in detail. These components are then transported to the construction site as a whole and assembled. This method not only guarantees a higher level of finish but also ensures that installation on site can proceed smoothly and accurately, even with the most challenging roof shapes.

The roof of The Grand is literally crowned with unique elements. For example, the distinctive domes are manufactured in France and perfectly pre-formed using 3D scans. They are then installed by hand on-site.
As the final touch, the corner tower will be finished with a combination of natural slate and a zinc ornament, which will be assembled on the ground and then hoisted into place in a single motion.

Upon completion, The Grand will feature 70 luxury apartments, along with a brasserie, retail spaces, a wellness center with a swimming pool, and an underground parking garage. The high-quality finish of the roof perfectly aligns with the vision of the entire project.
“This is a project where everything comes together: complexity, aesthetics, and collaboration.”
For Tectum Group , this Tectum Group more than just a project. It is a testament to what is possible when expertise, passion, and collaboration come together.
